Salvete omnes -
In the USA there is usually a free, on-the-airwaves public broadcasting station in most areas, but all the more specialized channels tend to be on cable. And they're doubly-paid for: one pays for cable or satellite, and then one has to sit thru the endless commercial advertisements as well. Yet cable TV seems to be the norm, and broadcast TV is just limping along after.
What's even funnier is that if you mention "Hannibal" to anyone here, they only think of Anthony Hopkins' portrayal of the fictional murderer, the Hannibal Lector character! They don't even know who Hannibal ipse was! It's amazing to me that the real Hannibal has not been the subject of a movie in recent years, especially after the success of Gladiator.
I have been trying to find an affordable copy of the 1960 Italian movie production of Hannibal, which starred Victor Mature. Do any of our European sodales know this film? I'm fifty years old now, and as a kid this movie impressed me a great deal - but most of you will be much younger.
