Ancient manuscripts

Salvete,

I have a welcoming present for all members of the new forum :!:

This is an utterly amazing site that contains scans of ancient manuscripts of Sumerian, Babylonian, Assyrian, Greek, Roman and Medieval literature. It has good explaining notes and the site's overall structure is very clear. A must see !

For all you Cicero-translators (if any  ), here's the quick link from that site to a portion of his Epistolae ad Familiares, dating from the 15th century: http://www.nb.no/baser/schoyen/4/4.3/ms612.jpg

Valete bene !

Salve Lupe,

Thanks for the fantastic link, sure to please the bibliophiles as well as those who are simply curious.
Did you see the section on medieval/Renaissance literature? Gorgeous illuminated manuscripts!

Salve Allegra,

Yes, the miniature letter in the manuscript of Petrarca and the "illustration" that goes with the work of Boccaccio are stunning examples of 14th and 15th century illuminated manuscripts. The "Dark Ages" as they are called in Europe weren't so dark after all ;-)

Vale bene
