Neutrality?

Postby Aldus Marius on Fri Mar 20, 2009 9:25 pm

*holds throbbing head*

Amici, when we were first setting this thing up, didn't we decide that we weren't going to hold too closely to any particular timeframe? If this becomes Roman-historical roleplay as opposed to just-plain-Roman roleplay, we'll all have to research events of the chosen era closely, and our characters will have little choice but to dance around them or be part of them.

In the Provinces, on the farms, and even for the ordinary Roman in the City, I don't think it mattered very much who the Emperor was as long as the delivery-carts ran on time. There were cauponae, retired soldiers and fussy civil servants in all eras. I'd wanted to keep this thing generic. If we *have* to have a starting year, perhaps we could each list the time-references we've already made in our characters' posts and see if they can be reconciled?

Salvete conludores,

I have made a list of the first L chapters, up to 90320. Might come in handy ? Numbers : date - I have set my clock to GMT ( probably the best time in the world ), so might defer one day from yours ; number of your contribution; page on the board ;

I have not included those posts that were completely [OOC]

Marii - Aulus had asked, and it occurred to me that a name for the Emperor might be germain to the story. No big! We can ignore that bridge until approached, if ever.

Aule Flavii - Your "Argh", whether uttered in commiseration or even repentence, is seconded by myself.

Formose, thou excellent member of the OCDevian Club (I just enrolled thee wil-thou nil-thou): what an excellent list. But let's reassure Marius it doesn't mean the "Play" will be leached out of our Role Play! If the RP starts to turn into another Census project, then - "LOOK OUT! Angry Wolf!" But I am thinking I may drop in some missing chapter titles for my posts, when I can.

Since you apparently have no idea how all this 'diting business really works, I have retrieved this bit of info for you from the FAQ section :

How do I edit or delete a post?
Unless you are a board administrator or moderator, you can only edit or delete your own posts. You can edit a post by clicking the edit button for the relevant post, sometimes for only a limited time after the post was made. If someone has already replied to the post, you will find a small piece of text output below the post when you return to the topic which lists the number of times you edited it along with the date and time. This will only appear if someone has made a reply; it will not appear if a moderator or administrator edited the post, though they may leave a note as to why they’ve edited the post at their own digression. Please note that normal users cannot delete a post once someone has replied.

Glad to have been of help.

So, no ''Reason for 'diting''-box for us mere mortals then, I guess. We are but will-less and unreasoning puppets in the hands of Fortuna, anyway. And in the hands of the likes of You, who dwell on Mons Olympus and who do have a ''Reason for 'diting''-box, to be filled in at Your own discretion or to be left blank when You just want to mock us by 'diting our posts when we are not looking.

Bene vale et nil desperandum,

PS ( We can mess around with your quotes however )

PPS Ohh, and if you think you are a tough customer, being a Roman, check out this page from the daily life of the Spartans.
Good fun.

The Accused Responds

Postby Aldus Marius on Tue Mar 24, 2009 5:50 am

Hei!! --I resemble that remark!

1) I do not edit other peoples' posts....
2) ...except to fix an URL or other link so that it works, or...
3) ...(rarely) to replace a 'special' character that isn't displaying correctly with the "character entity" or substitution code that will cause it to show the way it's supposed to.
4) I did, once, colorise a long post that included quotes from several people so that readers could tell what was being said by whom.

When I *have* edited a post (including my own if the content is affected), I put an [Ed. note:] at the bottom so everyone knows I did it. (No 'Reason for Editing' box used or required.)

It would be a breach of your trust and my honor to edit the *content* of anybody's posts but my own. I am a sensitive soul; please don't say that again, even in jest.

The Apology of Formosus

Postby Formosus Viriustus on Wed Mar 25, 2009 8:41 pm

Dear Marius,

It was never my intent to question neither your dedication, nor your skills and least of all your integrity as a Webmaster And I would never have dared to make jokes about it if there was even a grain of doubt in my mind about all that and if I did not consider you to be a TRUE friend. You, of course, more than anybody else, have made me feel welcome at SVR and you have helped me enormously with several practical problems already where most others would not have bothered to do so. So thanks again for all that.

It may not be much of a compliment, coming from me who has no way of comparing, still, for what it's worth : you are by far the best Webmaster I have ever met and I think SVR may count itself very lucky with having someone like you on board.

Best regards,
Formosus Viriustus

You sure you haven't been watching too many Al Pacino movies lately ?

Any news from our dear Pulla, anyone ? I'm getting a bit worried.

Formose -
No, nothing from Sempronia Pulla - so I reckon:
a. she's simply too busy with her RL; or
b. she got simply too bored; or
c. she's fallen in with a bad crowd over at NR; or
d. she has better things to do!
She, also, was a bit of a sparkplug - the whole RP misses her!

Paule -
Sometimes I think you're the 'prime mover' in this story; nice to meet this "Brutus" friend of yours....

Postby Valerius Claudius Iohanes on Tue Mar 31, 2009 3:03 am

Salvete, Amici -

So - NOBODY wants to post another episode in the RP, eh? Harumph. Well - I guess I'll just have to post a few EXTENDED soliloquies by that boring old pedant, Iohannes! His milk-toast treatment of philosophizing and weak-kneed rejection of passion will make these upcoming posts really good Hollywood material! Action movie stuff, only without any action at all.

Are we all waiting for each other? Am I, would you say, WAAAAY too anxious?

What will you do if I threaten to have Sponge Bob appear? Hmmm? Anybody? No one ready to re-vivify the RP?!?

Salvete, Quirites omnes -

Bene est, I will send my eagerness out to play elsewhere and wait for Marius's sure pen and new cast of characters; and Paule, that's right, we need Cleo's input, considerate of you to wait; and of course, Aule, one's RL can certainly thwart the RP one's in - no help for that.

And Minerva knows I have a thousand RL officula of my own that need tending to! So I'll bide my time.

Short version

Postby Aldus Marius on Wed Apr 01, 2009 4:29 am

Salve, mi Flavi!

The short version: We've all escaped the caupona. Medusa made it back to her ludus before curfew; Paulus has just been shaken down in his apartment for protection money; and Marius is dragging (OK, escorting) Iohannes and Formosus to his insula on the Campus Martius, where he's got some rather, um, sturdy tenants. Aack--! We've been overrun by aliens!

Postby Aldus Marius on Thu Apr 09, 2009 2:11 am

Salvete, conlusores!

Wow... Terminator, Alien, and Silence of the Lambs? Our cups runneth over, and not with molten chrome either! Mi Formose, was this the sort of whackiness you had in mind for the "Formosi" thread? --I'm liking it; it reminds me of my old chatroom hijinks, where almost anything could happen--from companionable discussion to Homeric Epic Battles! (With the occasional ghost or werewolf thrown in.) I'd be happy to get Wild and Crazy in "Formosi" or anywhere else you can name, including...(gasp! Drumroll)...our actual Chatroom! (We have one, amici amicaeque; you can get to it from the Index page of the Web site.)

But for the RP I'm fixing to post a description of the insula lupinosam, as noster Iohannes has affectionately dubbed it; Marius' crew doesn't know *what's* going on at Lupinius' flat, so as far as they're concerned the expedition is still on. >({|;-)

Salve Peregrine,

Yes, somehow we always seem to end up in the wrong thread, dont we ?
So we'll let Roma Mater and Officer Ripley nurse Paulus back to life while you get on with more serious business.

Oh, and that Chatroom or 'Confabulaboratorium' as you call it. Maybe you can get in, but I can't. It says the link is broken. Another SVR mystery ? Or do I have to get the key from the care-taker first ? Is there anything else there than cobwebs and the mummies of long lost members ?

Vale optime !
