Salvete,
Just a simple question: what is the ancient Greek word for "metal"? A word that could mean "gravity" or "ice" is also welcome. I forgot a lot, as you can see
. I need to know these words to form compounds with -kinesis for the novel I'm writing.

ice is κρύσταλλος, hence crystal, and metal (iron) is σίδηρος.

Salve Draco,
Here's a good link for such searches :
English to Greek Word Search.
This allows you to search the English definitions in LSJ.

Gratias vobis ago, amici.
What does sidhroi mean? The translator page Atticus suggested doesn't list this as a possibility. For "metal" an option seems to be quite simply "metallon"
.

Odd. My Oxford Dictionary says it means iron.

It does, indeed.

Salve Scerio,
Ahh, I only searched on "metal" not on iron. That will probably be the reason why it wasn't listed. I wasn't disputing your authority here
.

I thought I did specify that in my post "metal (iron)" - but hey, we all overlook things
