Salvete,

Does anyone know the origin of the word "Bacchus" (or Bachus, Bachos, Bacchos,...), the Roman counterpart of Dionysos ?

The reason I ask is because I just had to translate the Lusistratè from Aristophanes and he mentions "to Bacheion", meaning "a place of Bacchian joy". So did the Greeks already use both names for their god ?
