Avete omnes!

Ericius just dug this up; it's been around almost as long as the Outpost. But new to us, nonne?

The link takes you to a Lego model of the Temple of Fortuna Primigenia in Praeneste. You can click on thumbnails of other models from there. It really *is* "the Ancient World", not just classical Rome and Greece; one of the featured works is the Temple at Angkor Wat.

Enjoy!

Wow, that's pretty amazing. That will teach me to underestimate lego's...

I think I've seen these before, heh. Someone should try their hands on a full scale model of Rome. Now that would be interesting. I'm also reminded me of the famous Brick Testament, which recreates scenes from the bible also using Legos. Here for instance Jesus appearing before Pontius Pilatus:

I'm surprised actually that Lego themselves never considered Roman themed sets. There's plenty of room for interesting material: an amphitheatre, triumphal arches, aquaducts, villas, legions, chariots,...

Rome, the Eternal Lego Set ?

Say, you're right, Tarquinii - Lego "Rome" sets would be naturals, I should think. Temples, basilicae and statuary, and blocky Lego caricatures of the more famous emperors, which could be easily re-painted to become other, less popularly-known figures.

Vale.

I'll be danged. Even to the Aquilifer and Centurion and those proper pila in their little plastic hands.

If only their copy-writers knew that Roman soldiers went by the title of 'legionary', they would have had it right!

I have two of the gladiators and one legionary by Playmobil. So I put their armor together in a way that it comes to close to being authentic, have now the pairing of a hoplomachus against a murmillo. And the legionary functions as a summa rudis ;-)

"Summa Rudis"?

Salve, Cleopatra Aelia -

What would a "summa rudis" be doing?

Vale.

The summa rudis is the referee at gladiatorial fights. E.g. the famous mosaic from Nennig shows one watching over a fight of a retiarius and a secutor.
