Germinius us Geminus

Postby Anonymous on Tue Jul 20, 2004 9:59 am

Salvete omnes,

Aulus Aelius Germinius is dead. So Welcome Aulus Aelius Geminus (my first wish indeed).

If i put a look into my latin dictionary (the famous Gaffiot), i see : Germinus supernomen of the Servilius.

So don't forget Germinius = Germinus now

Vale

Aulus

Salve Gemini,

One question: is it really called "supernomen" (in French perhaps)? The only term I know for a third name is the "cognmen".

Vale bene,

Salve Draco,

You're rigth ! That's a cognomen, not a supernomen. I was to busy to search the real term in my dictionary. Sorry :)

Germinius us Geminus - Cognomen vs. Supernomen

Supernomen may not be proper Latin, verum it seems like an easier-to-remember term than Cognomen. Ah, well.
