Wouldn't your first two suggestions be '900' instead of '9000'?

But magnas gratias ago for showing me a way to type that third option!

All three options are 900. I thought it said 900 and not 9000. The latter is tricky to draw on the computer - you'd need superlinear strokes above the letter to indicate multiplication by 10.

The third option was actually really similar to how they wrote it themselves. The common use of MDCLXVI is actually a rather late standard.
