Pythagoreans

Salvete

As I was reading In the Dark Places of Wisdom, Kingsley states that Pythogoreans are the ones who invented the way they fought wars back than. They gave everything defending their lives and believes.
How much of this is true?

Salve Romule,

Does the author indicate his sources for this rather queer statement ? If so, which are they ?

Salve Attice
From what I can tell, he says that the Pythagoreans developed the martial arts, and its history (Krijgskunde and krijgsgeschiedenis in dutch) and his source are the following (i will post it in dutch) its late and i don't have the energy to try to translate it:
De Pythagorese en Parmeneidiaanse levenswijze: cebes' tablet 2. Onze levens als raadsel ibid., 3; J.T. Fitzgerald en L.M. White, The tabula of Cebes
Pythagoreeers en hun praktische instelling: Ancient Philosophy, Mystery and Magic by Peter Kingsley
Filosofie en pythagoreeers; C.J. de Vogel, Philosophia
De Vogel, Pythagoras and early Pythagoreanism.
Plato's gastheer: APMM
Pythagoreeers en oorlogvoeren: ibid
That's it for that chapter.

Salvete,

Given that the military arts were in place long before the Pythagoreans entered the scene, this statement seems highly dubious. Having said that, I'm not an authority on the matter - any of our Military experts have anything to say?
