Various questions

Postby Curio Agelastus on Tue Apr 15, 2003 9:13 pm

Salvete,

I have a few questions related to my recent reading of six of Plutarch's lives.

Firstly, Plutarch says that Marius and Publius Rutilius Rufus had a private quarrel, when I had been under the impression that they were good friends. Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Secondly, Plutarch reminded me that Quintus Cicero was killed as a result of his relation to his brother. Who was he killed by? It seems illogical for the Caesareans to have killed Quintus, since he was a loyal Caesarean himself, and had served in Gallic Wars.

And finally, apparently Marius hid Sulla when the people were looking for him, just before Sulla led his army on Roma. Is this story confirmed, unconfirmed, or dismissed as nonsense?

Many thanks!

Bene valete,
Marcus Scribonius Curio Britannicus.

1. I think its from McCullough. She made Rutilius and Marius chums.

2. Cicero and his family was proscripted by the triumvirs. Quintus had supported his brother and had not joined the triumvirs. they were escaping to the east when caught.

3. dunno about that story. don´t have a Plutarch near by.

Salve Nero,

May I be the first to wish you a warm welcome to this community. It would be nice if you would briefly introduce yourself on the "general" forum.

Together with Gaius Equitius Cato you are the second new member to say hello on this day, SVR's 3rd birthday. Two new members, we couldn't have asked lady Fortuna for a better present
