Need help identifying an image/statue

Postby Tarquinius Dionysius on Sat Aug 25, 2007 5:17 pm

Salvete omnes,

Various pictures around the internet exist of a bust (or statue?) claiming to be of Berenice of Cilicia (aka emperor Titus' lover). Two examples below:

However, after an exhaustive search I have still not discovered the source of either the images or the statue. Were these pictures taken from a book? Is the copyright expired? (seems like it because they're in black and white) Is it a statue or a bust? In which museum can it be found, etc... Any information/suggestions/tips are welcome!

Salve

She is to be found in the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli. The photos look as though taken from a book on the museum's collection. Just because the photos are B&W would not mean the source is old and the museum would still hold rights on any images. So it would be best to write to the museum for any information and for permission to use images of their bronze.
