Salvete Sodales
Just published to the Comitia is the praetorial edict to which Censor Locatus referred last March. Sometimes working out details, building consensus so that a strong majority, if not the entire Senate, will agree, does take time. In this case the praetores worked together to form their edict, then presented it to the Senate for comment. The praetores took into consideration the comments of other senatores before publishing the edict. This is the first step to what the Senate hopes to produce in the way of a broader guideline dealing with all forms of adjudication. Since such rules would naturally involve several magistrates, no edicts could cover all that would be involved. Instead we hope to propose a decretum to the Comitia on this by our December elections.
Already in the works is a proposed decretum covering contributions. We are trying to form a balance between the property rights of sodales who submit contributions and SVR as an organization, and a balance between the aediles and rectores in guiding the development of collegia webpages. This proposal is nearly complete.
Some other matters raised have been a review of elections procedures during out collegial elections in June; procedures for replacing magistrates under a variety of circumstances; and the issue of use of honorary titles in SVR that originate in the collegia.
We are addressing the more important organizational matters first as these would most effect the nature of SVR in the future. A slow process at times, but one requiring due deliberation.
Valete optime
