Salvete Mari et Draco,

Well, come to think of it, most people would consider me the opposite of a "Presence", so an Absence would describe me well. But I'm not sure why my statement was so confusing. Although, admittedly, it takes little to enfeeble my mind.

I was simply saying that I had arrived back from holiday, but was now embarking on an archaeology course. As it turns out, I'm able to return home in the evenings, so I'll still be here.

Bene valete,
Marcus Scribonius Curio Britannicus.

Salve Marce

Let me assure you, the only thing about that post was a typing error: as Draco pointed out, you wrote you were an absentia. That should be in absentia naturally.

The following lines of your post were perfectly understandable to me, my friend. And between you and me (which is tricky on a public forum, isn't it ? )
If others do not grasp the meaning of it, they might have gone :? , me thinks.

Or they are just being ironic bastards... figure of speach (before the inquisiton shows up at my doorstep)

So, it should be clear that the Absence is not feeble minded.

Salvete Draco et Menci,

I have looked back at the passage in question, and Draco, I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I said IT might not be an absentia (Because I'm back in the evenings) and not I might not be an absentia. So, amice, my mind is not yet enfeebled. Not past its natural rate anyway. :-D

Menci, may I recommend a quarterstaff? It is far more effective for fending off attacks than any potion. Or wordplay for that matter - Draco take note. ;-)

Bene valete,
Marcus Scribonius Curio Britannicus.

Thanx for the suggestion.I wanted to bring back a three section staff from China, but customs didn't want to hear of it.

The fools even had problems with my nail clipper!! The thing being about 1.5 inches, I would surely murder someone with it...

Mi Mari, I have never tried to usurp your position, only to carve my own niche. And it's not really disputable that my mind is easily confuddled. Remember the guard at the gate? :-)

Draco, have I ever fought back with anything but wordplay? So if you consider yourself powerful, then by reflection I am equally strong by standing up to you. Dammit, I don't have the ego to believe that.

Bene valete,
Curio Modestus Humilis.

Even in the face of evidence, you keep minimising your own role!

Good to hear, it seems that I more than make up for your deflated ego then by having an inflated one myself :p.

Why would I even try to crush a Teletubby? You must *really* be bored out of your mind if you want to try *that*!

A Teletubby, being essentially a beanbag, cannot be crushed.

Ripped open, its plastic face fed to a teething puppy, the 'screen' used for a bookmark and the sawdust comprising its innards scattered to the Four Winds, yes...but not crushed.

About them BB ranks...

Mi Draco:

What, pray tell, is the rank structure on the Board? I'll need the names of the ranks themselves, as well as the number of posts required to reach each one. So far I've got:

_-_-_-_ SVR Forum Ranks _-_-_-_
I. Auxiliary (to 50 posts)
II. Legionary (to 100 posts)
III. Optio (to 200 posts)
IV. Tesserarius
V. Cornicen
VI. Signifer
VII. Centurion (to 500 posts)
VIII. Tribunus Angusticlavus

Plainly, this is based on my own experience...that'll be why I have no 'XP point totals' for any rank above my own. Pretty please, can you or a helpful Aedilis fill in the blanks?

Lepide,

(Post scriptum, for anyone who is interested in the particulars of My Life With Dogs: Curli-Su, my smallest, did a thing I never thought she would: She Outgrew Her First Collar!!! The li'l Size 12 [or was it 10?] I draped around her neck in a private ceremony a year ago...and now she needs a size that other small doggies of mine have worn. Would Pepper's collar fit her...?

I'm Impressed!

Ave iterum, mi Draco!!

Your ranks system goes a lot farther and deeper than I'd expected--I'm impressed! Of course, I do have my usual pocketful of suggestions...

Your average Centurion in this man's Legion would be mortified...absolutely mortified!...to find himself demoted (you heard me!!) to being a Tribune of any rank. He'll have gone from First Sergeant Topkick all the way back to the end of the line as Lieutenant Wet-ears--and does not the word "Lieutenant", at best, mean a kind of placeholder, like a bookmark, maybe? If we simply *must* subject our Centuriones to such public humiliation (who knows, maybe it builds character), could we at least let them do Laticlavus right after Angusticlavus so's they can get it over with...? >({(:-)

Then that part of the chart would look like this:

VII. Centurion (401 to 500 posts)
VIII. Tribunus Angusticlavus (501 to 600 posts)
IX. Tribunus Laticlavus (601 to 700 posts)
X. Aquilifer (701 to 800 posts)
XI. Primus Pilus (801 to 900 posts)
XII. Praefectus Castrorum (901 to 1000 posts)
XIII. Legatus (over 1000 posts)

...the Tribunates would follow the Centurionate and each other, leaving the Primus Pilus in line for Praefectus and the Praefectus in good position to spook the Legate when he really needs it. [heh heh]

I am glad to see that there is a Primus Pilus rank in there; if I had not seen it, I was going to ask you to create one just for me when I reached the appropriate participation level, like you did with "Greek Hoplite" for Hellenos. (How is he these days, anyway...? I haven't heard from him in quite a while; I didn't run him off or anything, did I?) >({(:-l

Hmm...send me a private message and I'll tell you how you might be able to help with the dog-collar problem, too! (Hint: Two words--'Latin Inscription'.)

Salve Mari,

I'll try to implement these changes this evening. Thanks for the suggestions.

Aelius Rusticus has also resurfaced in the OP itself, btw.
