Re: Even Newer RP Thread!

Chleggfogle's dominant eye peered down at the creatures in the environment simulator, even as his two other eyes independently took the status of the instrumentations and answered some brain-mail. His gills feathered a little in satisfaction. The life-forms had in the space of a few Kellian wee...

Re: 300

Salvete, Amici - A good point, Draco. The Persian enemy was always either marked by non-European racial characteristics, or some sort of "deformation", or was made anonymous (in the case of the troops) by being masked. These 'markings' effectively reduce the Persians to the status not ...

Re: Latin tips and tricks

Salve, Draco -

Actually, i think you're right, and I have the cart before the horse - perhaps other phonemes wind up as [v] more often than [v] itself fades out.

Still, a vocal between two vowels - it might well get absorbed, it seems to me.

Re: If you could bring something back, what would it be?

Salve, Caeia Iulia - Nice to read your posts. Can I bring up two things? A question and a personal comment: 1. What's an LPTA? and 2. I'm not so sure about the "philosopher-king" and "leaders who will lead" - that lends itself to exactly the bad kind of politics the...

Re: Different Traditions, Different Folk

Salvete, Omnes qui heic legitis. This is an old thread, begun under the SVR's founders, but still of interest. At the risk of being a doofus, I think I will comment on my own position a little: My stance in the world of thought is half-assed, eclectic and a bit eccentric but, I propose, still...

Odiferous Pastimes

Salve, Annia Minucia -

Annia Minucia Marcella wrote:Good luck on that. Cigarettes are so icky. I prefer puffing on a pipe. Less addictive, nicer aroma.

The pipe was my father's favorite, also. I never wanted to smoke, but I did savor the smell of his cigars and his pipe-tobacco as a kid.

Re: I' Claudius Parody on Sesame Street

A trip down memory lane, Paule. And besides Alistair Cookie, there was Vincent Twice to host their mysteries, Guy Smiley to host their game shows, et cet.

And you know, given how Roman males were actually named, an argument of that sort could have occurred now and then. :D

Re: Latin tips and tricks

Salvete, Docti atque Indocti - Me indocto, until I see better proof this is my folk-rendition of the "Clovis" story - [x]lofis => [x]lovis (vowels either side working on the "f" and vocalizing it). Then, the Latin transcription: chlovis Next to go is the [x] being Lati...

Re: Decline and Fall Theory

Salvete, Urse Omnesque - I have to read both those books yet. :( (Time to worldcat them, I guess, since I haven't found cheap copies available.) I always wonder if it wasn't simply a concatenation of evils, of one thing after another, that kept the West ill and poor and reeling, where the Ea...

Re: Salvete!

Salvete, Sodales -

Quintus Valerius's rant against the UNRV was uncalled for. And I'm sure the folk at the UNRV have a different story to tell, in any event.

Nephele, I'm sorry you had to bear the brunt of his resentment and I apologize for his outburst.

Re: Expats from Nova Roma

Sodales Sociique - We seem to be on the verge of open war here. Let me say a few things. i. I don't think we need to do NR-bashing on this site. The NR is a serious organization, a dedicated one. If we have problems with their views and their prejudices, we can state this here. But I don't...

Re: The TEMPLVM ISIDIS is Open!

Re: Salvete

Salve denuo, Urse - 2nd question first: Yes, I believe we did have one in the Fora - but on the Society's website, as opposed to the Forum, ( http://www.societasviaromana.net ) we still have it. I think it was perhaps dropped from the Fora when we made the move to the new bulletin bo...

Re: New RP Discussion Thread

(Okay - Paulus says, "I'll be back", that's good.) :) How turned off are we re the RP? Do we all feel painted into a corner? Or are we all just too busy in Real Life to have any spare moments for this? For my part, I'm going to keep pushing Marius and Formosus towards the Trans-T...
