Lego.

Salve Iohanes,

Have you read it? I'm planning to buy it but will hold off until I read any review that you might have.

Re: Spartacus TV Series - Quick Review

The third and fourth episodes continued the series' improvement. Character development took the lead over fake blood. Oh, there was plenty of extreme violence, don't worry about that, but it is better balanced now. We're definitely going to continue to watch.

Re: Swords of the Republic and Empire

The Romans were on good ground in adopting a thrusting weapon. Years later, many, many duels to the death proved the speed and superiority of the thrust as opposed to the cut. Which is why modern fencing relies on the foil and epee (the saber grew out of mounted combat).

Re: A Larger Ekumenism?

That's why the Romans, with a couple of exceptions, did not fight religious wars.

Fantastic photos Lucane! You must be a professional. I've visited some of the places you did but have nothing to rival your pictures.

Re: End of the Year; Call for Officers

Let's go through with the form. If we get a quorum, great. If we don't, we'll just muddle through and accept the simple majority results. I don't think anyone is going to start screaming about an illegitimate "government". If someone does object, let's deal with it then.

I can recommend "Unto the Sons", an autobiographical novel by Gay Talese. Probably the best way to understand the modern Italian mentality. It's fun to pick out the cultural legacy of the Romans in the Italian attitudes.
