Lego.

Salve Iohanes,

Have you read it? I'm planning to buy it but will hold off until I read any review that you might have.

Re: Spartacus TV Series - Quick Review

The third and fourth episodes continued the series' improvement. Character development took the lead over fake blood. Oh, there was plenty of extreme violence, don't worry about that, but it is better balanced now. We're definitely going to continue to watch.

Re: Spartacus TV Series - Quick Review

We watched the second episode last night. It was much better than the first one, with more character development and less reliance on virtual blood in the fight scenes. I was again impressed by the recreations of the scenery and costumes as well. There wasn't much Latin in this episode, and I w...

Spartacus TV Series - Quick Review

My wife and I watched a new swords and sandals series on the American cable channel Starz. The series is very originally titled, "Spartacus, Blood and Sand". Only the first episode has aired and is available on video on demand. The show was less than impressive. Production relies heavi...

Re: Swords of the Republic and Empire

The Romans were on good ground in adopting a thrusting weapon. Years later, many, many duels to the death proved the speed and superiority of the thrust as opposed to the cut. Which is why modern fencing relies on the foil and epee (the saber grew out of mounted combat).

Re: A Larger Ekumenism?

That's why the Romans, with a couple of exceptions, did not fight religious wars.

Re: New Member: Spurius Mamilius Lucanus

Fantastic photos Lucane! You must be a professional. I've visited some of the places you did but have nothing to rival your pictures.

I went for a couple of hours on Sunday. My wife wasn't feeling well, so we left earlier than I would have liked. The event was smaller than I had anticipated. I guess I was expecting something the size of the Maryland Renaissance Faire. Roman Days this year covered an area about the size of a ...

I can recommend "Unto the Sons", an autobiographical novel by Gay Talese. Probably the best way to understand the modern Italian mentality. It's fun to pick out the cultural legacy of the Romans in the Italian attitudes.

Optime! Yes, I'm going. Probably for only one day, but I'll be there.

It will probably be held at GMU's main campus in Fairfax.
